Musical Director

Jordan W. McFarlane DipABRSM
Jordan W. McFarlane first developed an interest in music as a child, beginning piano lessons at a young age. A close family influence was Nanna Lynda—his grandfather’s partner—who played the piano and encouraged his early musical curiosity. Weekend visits often included trips to charity shops to buy cassette tapes of classical music, which Jordan and his grandfather would listen to together in the car, helping to shape his love of music from an early age.
During his school years, Jordan benefited from a strong and supportive music department under the guidance of his music teacher, Andrew Calderbank. He studied a range of instruments including brass and percussion, sang as a bass in school choirs, and continued developing his piano playing, building a broad and practical musical foundation.
At the age of thirteen, Jordan was introduced to male voice choir singing through Hadley & District Male Voice Choir—an experience that sparked a lasting passion for the male voice tradition. He later achieved a Diploma in Piano Performance (DipABRSM), awarded with Distinction, while remaining actively involved in choral music alongside a professional career in IT.
Alongside his choral work, Jordan teaches piano, music theory, and singing privately, working with students of all ages and experience levels, and placing a strong emphasis on confidence, musical understanding, and enjoyment.
Jordan has held Musical Director roles with several choirs, including Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir and Chase Choral Society, and is currently Musical Director of Shifnal & District Male Voice Choir. He is pleased to be working with Newport (Salop) & District Male Voice Choir, supporting the choir during this period and enjoying the opportunity to work with singers of all experience levels as they continue to develop a varied and engaging repertoire.
